Meet Your Host

Nicole S. Turner is an educational consultant, author, owner and creative director at Simply Coaching + Teaching, LLC. She is the creator of the Simply Coaching Summit, the first and only virtual summit exclusively for instructional coaches and teacher leaders and the author of "Simply Instructional Coaching". In addition, she serves teachers and students in the capacity of an Instructional Coach in Indianapolis, IN. Nicole has 15 years of K-12 classroom and leadership experience from classroom teacher to school improvement and turnaround specialist for the Indiana Department of Education and many roles in between.

Joellen Killion is a senior advisor to Learning Forward and served for many years as the association’s deputy executive director. As senior advisor, she leads initiatives related to the link between professional development and student learning. She led the most recent revision of the Standards for Professional Learning, and has extensive experience in planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of professional learning at the school, system, and state/provincial levels. She works with coaches, principals, district and state leaders to support understanding and embedding standards-based professional learning in a system. The author or co-author of numerous books, her most recent book, published in 2015, is The Feedback Process: Transforming Feedback for Professional Learning. Her other books include Coaching Matters (with Cindy Harrison, Chris Bryan, and Heather Clifton); Assessing Impact: Evaluating Staff DevelopmentTaking the Lead: New Roles for Teachers and School-Based Coaches (with Cindy Harrison); Becoming a Learning School (with Patricia Roy), and others.

Steve Barkley, Executive Vice-President of PLS 3rd Learning, is internationally recognized for his ability to facilitate change. He is well known for guiding districts through the process of school improvement through coaching, mentoring, and professional learning communities. Most recently, Steve has concentrated his efforts on working with several districts in leadership training, coaching skills, and establishing teacher professional development goals. His dynamic energy and focus provide a
model for the skills necessary for effective change in individual teachers, teams, schools, and school districts. He began his career in education 40 years ago as an elementary school teacher. For the past 30 years he has served as a consultant to school districts, teacher organizations, state departments of education, and colleges and universities both nationally and internationally.  Steve is a master teacher-of-teachers, a highly motivational and riveting speaker who is extraordinarily knowledgeable about life in the classroom. A catalyst for growth, he is a true role model who practices what he teaches.

Jim Knight, Senior Partner of ICG, is a research associate at the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. He has spent more than a decade studying instructional coaching, writing several books on the topic.  Jim’s articles on instructional coaching have been included in publications such as The Journal of Staff Development, Principal Leadership, The School Administrator, and Teachers Teaching Teachers. Jim directs several research projects, including Pathways to Success, a comprehensive, district-wide school reform project in the Topeka, Kansas, School District. Jim also leads the coaching institutes and the Teaching, Learning, Coaching annual conference. Jim has presented and consulted in more than 40 states, most Canadian provinces, and around the world. He has also won several university teaching, innovation, and service awards.

Session Presenters

Gretchen is an elementary educator turned teacher coach and trainer. She has taught grades 2,3 and 5 in a large, urban school district. Gretchen later worked with The New Teacher Project [TNTP] at TEACH Charlotte to coach new teachers in grades K-12. She now speaks at various educational conferences, provides professional development to schools and districts nationwide as well as virtually coaches teachers and teacher leaders under her own company, Always A Lesson. 

Melanie is an educator with over two decades of experience teaching students and training educators. She is a national trainer, consultant, instructional coach and speaker who love improving teachers' instructional capacity. During her journey, she has worked with schools, districts, and organizations serving as a thought partner and leader in improving the quality of instruction.

After leaving the classroom, Adam joined the national strategy team of Teach For America where he helped design a technology platform to improve training new teachers. Adam is a recent Education Ventures fellow at the Kauffman Foundation and also the founder of Teach For Us.

Chrissy Beltran, creator of Buzzing with Ms. B, is an educational consultant & coach. She spends her days working with teachers and coaches to engage their students in quality reading and writing experiences, creating resources to support teachers in planning and delivering exciting lessons, and blogging at! Chrissy spent 14 years in elementary education in El Paso, Texas as a teacher and instructional coach. She is also a mom to a very bossy toddler and wife to her long-suffering husband.

Justin Baeder is Director of The Principal Center, where he helps school leaders build capacity for instructional leadership in their organizations. His online programs, including “The Instructional Leadership Challenge,” and “The High-Performance Instructional Leadership Certification Program,” have helped more than 10,000 school leaders in more than 50 countries make a habit of getting into classrooms and providing evidence-rich feedback for professional learning.

Nita Creekmore is an Instructional Coach who lives just outside Atlanta, GA. Nita is originally from Woodbridge, Virginia. She taught in grades 1, 2 and 5 for 13 years before becoming an Elementary School Instructional Coach. Nita obtained her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2002 and her Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership in 2013. In the 16 years she has been in education, she truly believes that in all aspects of the field, relationships must always come first.

Mrs. Crystal Ceresani is an elementary/middle school instructional coach in a rural school system in South Georgia. Over the last 4 years, she's researched and supported deeper learning for all students by helping teachers dig into data and its uses, implement new strategies, and promote differentiation as a norm in the classroom. Crystal aspires to make an impact in education that ultimately benefits student achievement, and she knows the best way to create a change in how students learn is by changing how educators learn. It is her goal to continue to help teachers grow and to share ways to use data in the school and classroom to best know where students are and how to best reach them.
Brian McGill is the Director of Partnerships at Sibme, in this role he leads The Sibme Community of subscribers towards presenting and collaborating on their real world use cases and outcomes from video enhanced professional learning.
Kimberly Crouch is a middle school English teacher on Long Island, NY.  She has been in the classroom for 19 years, and absolutely loves middle school students. Kim loves broadening their learning experiences with creativity and technology.  She is also a Teacher-Author of the store, English, Oh My! on Teachers Pay Teachers and an Amazon Ignite Teacher Seller.
Erin Flanagan is the technology enthusiast and educator behind Erintegration LLC.  She has presented on all things technology integration for educators all over the world online, in schools, at ISTE, and as one of the Teach With Tech Online Conference organizers. Erin has her Master’s in Teaching and over 12 years experience as an elementary classroom teacher and 2 years as a district-wide technology facilitator.  Erin currently blogs full time at and acts as a consultant with other education and edtech companies about best practices for tech integration in elementary schools. She also creates engaging activities and interactive classroom decor that builds technology fluency and takes the guesswork out of technology integration in the K-12 classroom.

In this session, Chrissy Beltran will explain the structures and systems that have helped her work from home effectively for three years. Learn about how to set boundaries, create routines, and identify a focus for your work so you can use your precious time effectively. As a bonus, I'm throwing in some ideas to keep your little ones busy so you an get your work done!

Google Classroom has become a large part of many classrooms and digital learning. However, some classrooms, teachers and coaches are not using this technology yet.  Do you need a beginner lesson on how to start your own Google Classroom and class? I will show you how to create a classroom, how to invite students, as well as the ins and outs of the online platform. 

Avoid sit and get PD during the quarantine and allow teachers to be interactive with Flipgrid as a PD tool. Flipgrid is a free resource for teachers to share videos and makes a great meeting place for your classroom, your school, your department or any learning community to discuss your topics.

In this session, coaches will learn about Flipgrid, ways to support staff with the use of it through PD, and help teachers use Flipgrid with their students during distance learning.

With distance learning comes distance leading. This session will help you turn coaching conversations into productive, empowering virtual discussions that move the needle in both teacher proficiency and student achievement.

During this challenging time, it is important for us to connect with our teachers in a fun and engaging way! One way to do that is through virtual book studies. In this presentation, Nita Creekmore will navigate you through the process of having a virtual book study with teachers. She will also show you how to use two different resources through Zoom to meet with teachers and discuss and a new resource called Loom which you can send the link to the book study! Get ready for some great innovative ideas on how to do a virtual book study with teachers!

"So, what do we do now?" That's usually the first question we ask ourselves and others when faced with a crisis. When things seem to be turned upside down, we sometimes lose focus because we don't know what to do next. When coaching in a crisis like we're currently experiencing, we need to slow down to gain clarity about our current reality. In this session, I will talk to you about how you can realistically coach in a crisis by sharing  10 ways to support teachers while remaining sane. Coaching in a crisis can be done, it's how you do that makes all of the difference!  

Wakelet is a free online media curation platform that works on all devices.  In addition to curating personal content, Wakelet has many education applications and an active educator community! In this session, Wakelet Ambassador Erin Flanagan will give you an overview of how Wakelet works and will show you how to utilize Wakelet to easily create and share resources for teachers & caregivers at home during this unprecedented situation.  This session will also give examples of how Wakelet can be used as a "hub" for students to deliver and share remote learning content, lessons, and activities, too.

The Simply Coaching Summit “Quarantine Edition” will take place via the internet. Registered participants will be able to access and attend the TWO Day LIVE & PRE-RECORDED EVENT from a computer or mobile device with internet access.

The TWO-DAY LIVE Interviews will be conducted on Monday and Tuesday starting at 9:00 am Eastern Standard Time.

The Pre-Recorded Videos will be released at 9:00 am Eastern Standard Time.each morning. 

The Two- Day LIVE Event will take place online through the internet. All sessions will be available via a link in the Simply Coaching Summit "Quarantine Edition" Platform.

You do not have to travel to participate. All sessions will be accessed through the summit website.  All registered participants will be provided with login access upon registration to the summit. If any participate chooses he/she can access the platform prior to the summit start date to familiarize themselves with the site. 

Yes. All interview sessions will be recorded and will be available LIVE while the sessions are being broadcast to Free Pass registered attendees. The Pre-recorded sessions will be available for Free Pass holders until Wednesday March 24, 2020 at 4pm eastern. For those who have purchased an Replay Pass all videos will be available on demand for 6 months (September 23, 2020) following the event.   

Yes, registration for the event is required. It is important for all attendees to register so that we can get a complete count of participants to prepare for future summits.

Yes, but tickets will only be sold until April 5, 2020. 

You can access the Two-Day Event site at any time after you have registered for a pass. During registration, you will create your own username and password. You are encouraged to log in, explore and familiarize yourself with the features of the site. Session handouts will be available in the site the morning of the Summit. 

Yes. All session presenters will have a note-taking guide that accompanies their presentation.  For those who have purchased the Access Pass, the note-taking guides will also be available under each video session for single download. Materials will remain on the site for six months.

Yes.  The interviews will be LIVE! Thought Leaders will be able to read your questions and answer them live during the interviews. 

The Pre-recorded sessions will have a comments section where you can post questions and the presenters will be able to answer.

Every state has different requirements for what they will accept. Check with your specific state’s licensing agency to see if the summit meets their guidelines. In addition to signed certificates, we will be providing a course summary, learning objectives, and speaker bios for each Session in a download.

Yes! Just be sure that every individual registers for the Free Access Pass to the Summit. However, you cannot watch the summit together in a group after the live Broadcast week.
